A slate-quarrying town and railway junction 3 miles N. of Ffestiniog. The quarries overlook the town. Blaenau has a very fine climate and is set amid grand hill scenery. It makes a good climbing or angling centre.

It is famous for the Ffestiniog Railway, which starts in Blaenau Ffestiniog, and runs though beautiful scenery to Porthmadog.

Blaenau Ffestiniog is Reknowned for it's gritty and menacing Looks, with huge outcrops of Slate jutting out from cliffs above the houses.
