This is a small but popular holiday resort on the south coast of the Lleyn peninsula midway between Portmadoc and Pwllheli. Criccieth faces due south and is a natural sun trap. Although the beach is stony in places, the bathing is good, and there is also a golf course to the rear of the town, which increases its attraction. In the centre of the front there stands a huge rock with the ruins of Criccieth Castle on top. The castle is of early but uncertain date. Something of two massive towers, the work, most probably, of Edward I, remain. At Criccieth is Bryn Awdon, a house owned by the late Earl Lloyd George of Dwyfor. Criccieth has the advantage of being situated in delightful upland country, as well as by the seashore.
