The “Chapel-in-the-Wood,” among the most beautiful places m Wales, stands on the junction of the river Llugwy with the larger Conway, about 16 miles from Conway town, and 24 miles from Caernarvon. Its wooded, hilly environs and the picturesque blend of tree, rock and stream, as well as the excellent trout and salmon fishing, have made the village perhaps too popular with the tourist. The Old Church, among the most ancient in Wales, has a line effigy in armour of Gryffyd Ap David Goch, grandson of Prince David, brother of the last Llewellyn. A mile north of the village, on the Llugwy, in the wooden Miner's Bridge, a famous beauty spot, while 2 ½ miles from Bettws in the same direction are the Swallow Falls, a wide-spraying torrent of rushing water, cascading over jutting rocks. A little to the south of the village is the Fairy Glen, a rocky glade, overhung with woods, with a lovely still pool below. Farther south still, the torrent of the Conway Falls hurtles down in a narrow channel, amid very beautiful surroundings.
