Boasting the world's third longest place name, and the longest in the UK, Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantisiliogogogoch is usually abbreviated to LLanfairpwll, or even Llanfair P.G. It translates literally as:
"St. Mary's Church in the Hollow of the White Hazel near a rapid whirlpool and the church of Saint Tysilio near the Red Cave".
It is a unique town, in that that it's most famous attraction is the sign above the railway platform, which spells it's unique name.
Llanfairpwll is located on the banks of the Menai strait at one end of the Brittania Bridge, (A55). Look out for the beautiful small white toll house on the corner, impossible to miss. There are gift and memorabillia shops near the station, selling souvenirs and items such as Portmeirion pottery.
