Pen Y Gwryd
Pen-y-Gwryd is a famous Inn on the road from Capel Curig through Nant Gwynant, just short of the junction with the road through the Llanberis Pass. The Inn stands solitary by the roadside, at a height of 900 feet. It is another of the famous names in the story of British climbing. Throughout the second half of the last century it was the base for Snowdon climbers, when the modern technique of rock-climbing was being so energetically worked out. It was in this Inn, in 1898, that the Climbers Club came into existence. Today it is still a loved haunt of many a climber.
