Ogwen Cottage is one of the shrines of British mountaineering. The cottage nestles by the roadside at the northern end of the lake, and looks across to the shoulder of Pen y Ole Wen. Nearby is a Youth Hostel. The Climbing Book in the cottage is almost a history of rock climbing, and includes the names of most of our famous climbers over half a century. The cottage has nowadays lost a little of its glory, but in the memory of most of the older generation of climbers it stands for some of the richest days in their lives.
